The identies of the celebrities who'll be switching the lights on this year have just been revealed and they are the stars of the BBC 2 Television Programme Top Gear - James May, Jeremy Clarkson, and Richard Hammond. The ceremony wil be covered live on Radio 2 and recorded to appear in a future episode of the show. The television stars are well known for their exploits, such as going across the English Channel in a Truck and racing a car against a plane. The Illuminations organisers are hoping that the high profile of Top Gear will encourage a great deal of corporate interest in the the 2008 Launch night, and anticipate that the presenters, popularly known as Captain Slow, Jezzer and the Hamster will provide a spectacular start to this years Blackpool Illuminations. Reaction to the announcement has been extremely positive. Top gear makes a welcome return to our screens on Sunday 22 June.
